If you are reading this, I want you to know I get what it’s like struggling to find someone who can understand and relate to you. I’ve been to my fair share of therapists that said they were, “LGBT friendly”. Later realizing they had no idea what I was talking about, tried to help me “change” as if there was something wrong with me, or tried to impose their religious beliefs.
I don’t know about you but I’m tired of hearing that LGBT+ therapists have asked my clients, “Which one of you is the [Insert stereotype here] in your relationship?”. I’m tired of us having to educate our therapists on who we are rather than be able to focus our time on what we came to therapy to address. I’m tired of getting stuffed into a heteronormative-cisgender box by society.
I’m just tired.
Can you relate? We are each individual with different needs, wants, and desires. We deserve a safe space to be comfortable in our own skin. No judgments. No biases. Just a strong support system with open ears. As a member of the queer community and a 2SLGBTQIA+ therapist, I am committed to helping clients of all gender identities, sexual identities and expressions, feel not only safe but truly respected.
It is also an honor to support the Two-Spirit identity. It is important because I connect to my tribe deeply.
As a queer and Indigenous woman, people often make assumptions that they know me, but they don’t. That’s why I’m so passionate about making sure people feel seen and heard, as they are, not as they appear.
